Questions on Quoting

  • Q: Can an NFIP policy be rewritten to a private carrier mid-term?
  • A: No, an NFIP policy cannot be rewritten to a private carrier mid-term as that is not a valid cancellation reason for the NFIP.
  • Q: Do you offer any other coverages besides building, contents, and loss of use?
  • A: Yes, here at JFIB we can offer many additional coverages such as pool repair, other structures, basement contents, basement dwelling, catastrophic ground collapse coverage, and more. Please put any desired coverages in the notes section of your submission.
  • Q: Does JFIB write properties with prior loss history?
  • A: Yes, JFIB can write properties with prior loss history. However, JFIB does not have any private flood options for Severe Repetitive Loss (SRL) properties as defined by the NFIP, unless elevated. Proof of any elevation or mitigation will be required to obtain quotes and place the business. We can, however, place your SRL with the NFIP.
  • Q: A home I’m quoting has flood vents. What do you need for proof?
  • A: To rate with flood vents, an elevation certificate is required to verify that the flood vents are engineered and provide the proper sized opening for the enclosure.
  • Q: Do you write homes other than single-family dwellings, such as mobile homes or condo units?
  • A: Yes, JFIB can write all types of homes, such as mobile homes, condo units, and more.
  • Q: Does claims history mean for just how long the current owner has owned the property, or the lifetime of the property?
  • A: With flood insurance, claims history follows the building and is for the lifetime of the property (since 1978).

Questions on Payment

  • Q: How does the insured pay for the policy?
  • A: When one of our JFIB representatives sends out the application and other required forms to bind, an ePay link will also be sent. The agent will forward this link to the insured, and the insured will use this link to pay for the insurance via ACH or credit card. The agency also has the option to pay, and for most risks, JFIB cannot bind without payment and required documents signed and returned. Becuase of this, JFIB does not accept hard copy checks or lender payments except for the reasons below.
  • Q: My client is a large commercial account that pays only by check/wire. Do you accept this?
  • A: Yes, JFIB has an exception to the ePay payment rule for commercial accounts. We accept payment (via check/wire/ePay) on 30-day terms for these accounts, and can be flexible depending on the client. Agencies should not net out commissions for these transactions, as JFIB remits commission back to agencies on a monthly basis.

Questions on Commissions and Policies

  • Q: How does my agency get paid commissions?
  • A: Commissions are paid within 30 days after the end of the month in which we receive payment for the policy. Please note, if a policy gets canceled mid-term, the pro-rated commission will be withheld from the agency’s next commission check.
  • Q: Does my agency get paid differently for renewal commissions?
  • A: Yes, you get paid renewal commissions based on the commission agreement sent to your agency at the time of signing up. Additionally, remarkets at renewal to a new carrier will use renewal commissions.
  • Q: Do any JFIB policies download into my agency management system?
  • A: No, JFIB policies will not download into an agency management system.

Questions on Managment

  • Q: Who is the point of contact for the lender and insured if they need the policy serviced/endorsed?
  • A: You, the retail agent, are the point of contact. As the retail agent, our contract is with you. Even though our name might be on the policy, you are the point of contact for all policy transactions. Note that if we receive a call or email on a policy, we will direct the insured or lender back to you.
  • Q: If I have a complaint or concern, who do I report that to?
  • A: JFIB takes complaints and concerns seriously. If you have a complaint or concern about anything related to JFIB, please email them to complaints@joefloodinsurance.com. This mailbox is regularly monitored and we track complaints until they are resolved.
